Students create comfort pillows for patients in hospice care

Good News Notes:

“A third grade class from Marcy Elementary school helped give to terminally ill patients this holiday season. It all started back in 2005 when Miss Tucci lost her father in hospice care. During his time there, she noticed that there was a need for comfort pillows, so she decided to have her class make and donate them to other patients in hospice care. The project teaches children the importance of spreading joy to those receiving end-of-life care.

‘Every year we cut up the materials and the children make at least three pillows and they sew them all by themselves with a sewing machine. And then we make a label, made with love and their name. And then we pick a day where parents come and we all drive over to the Siegenthaler Center.’ – Sandy Tucci, Teacher, Marcy Elementary School.

They were read a story about sending love to people near and far. Students were able to learn about hospice care and how a small act of kindness can make a huge difference in someone’s life.”
