‘It’s a miracle…’ Magnolia family reflects after narrowly escaping landslide at home

Good News Notes:

A landslide took a family home and the lives of two dogs who were inside.

“I thought I was going to die, and just praying to God,” said James Fritts.

James Fritts and his wife Didi were in the kitchen Friday afternoon when a landslide knocked their home off its foundation.

“We heard a big crack and huge roar and the whole house just exploded around us,” said Fritts.

The house collapsed and Fritts says he was pinned underneath a refrigerator for 45 minutes before crews were able to rescue him while also putting out a fire.

“They were able to douse the fire, use the jaws of life to get me out,” Fritts said. “We’re a miracle, it’s just a miracle we’re alive.”

Didi was able to get out on her own.

“You see the planters that are up there, those are the only things that saved her life,” Fritts said. “She was able to crawl out with about 4 inches to spare.”

Both suffered injuries and were treated at the hospital but their two dogs, Sammy and Lilly, didn’t make it out.

“I love my dogs,” Fritts said. “I mean they were… I love my dogs.”

As he stands in front of the place he called home for a decade, he can’t help but think of all the memories that came from here….”
