Lamborghini Sets a Crazy Goal for Electrification

Good News Notes:

The iconic supercar brand Lamborghini has announced that 2022 will be the last year it’ll release internal combustion engine vehicles that run purely on gas. Then, starting next year, every Lambo will come with electric motors, and the company even confirmed a crazy goal for full-electrification.

In 2018, Lamborghini had a completely different mindset than what we’re hearing now—claiming that battery and electric packages can’t offer the energy and power to create their legendary supercars. However, things have changed a bit since, and in 2021, it revised that statement. Now, Lamborghini wants to go all-in on EVs.

According to CEO Stephan Winkelmann, Lamborghini will release four vehicles that are purely combustion engines this year. They’ll be the last cars that don’t offer some sort of electrical assistance.

Don’t worry though, as the company isn’t diving in headfirst. Instead, all Lamborghini’s released in 2023 will come with powerful engines and electric motors combined and be hybrids or plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV). The plug-in hybrid setups will include a V-12 engine, a battery, and an electric motor.

While this doesn’t come as a surprise given the popularity of electric vehicles, the company still plans on being late to the full electrification party. During the same announcement, Winkelmann confirmed Lamborghini’s first all-electric vehicle still won’t arrive until sometime in 2028 and be a 4-door “daily driver” created in partnership with its parent company Volkswagen…..”
