World Giraffe Day

Traditionally observed on the summer solstice (the longest day of the year), World
Giraffe Day honors those with the longest necks. The Henry Vilas zoo, located in Madison, Wisconsin, chose to celebrate one day late, however, to encourage more people to come out and celebrate this beautiful animal that is slowly moving toward extinction. Political fighting, poaching, human encroachment and the quest for oil and other resources are pushing the giraffe, like many other species, to the limit.
