City of Kamloops to further reduce carbon footprint at local rinks

Good News Notes:

“The City of Kamloops has implemented a new strategy to further reduce its carbon footprint, by rethinking one of Canada’s most treasured stereotypes—the Zamboni.

Ice resurfacers at Brocklehurst Arena, McArthur Island Sport Centre and Valleyview Arena started using cold water over the past year, instead of hot water.

The city estimates the switch resulted in $48,900 saved in energy costs.

As a result, the city’s 2020 energy-reduction program plans on adding the Memorial Arena to the list of rinks later this year and the Sandman Centre further down the line.”
