Matching donation kicks off Northeast Ohio SPCA van fundraising drive

Good News Notes:

“Many of the pets the Northeast Ohio SPCA rescues come from shelters in Southern states that are forced to kill abandoned animals due to lack of funding.

To help these pets, SPCA volunteers and staff travel hundreds of miles to pick them up so that they can be adopted in the Cleveland area. However, the van they use is old and cannot make many more long-distance trips.

In addition, the setup of the van is cramped, said Stefanie Merkosky, executive director. The pets stay in stacked portable crates, which she said can lead to a traumatic experience for pets that are already in a high-stress situation.”
