“There’s so many women who have no help’: Local non-profit for single mothers extends overseas

Good News Notes:

An Omaha woman founded a nonprofit to help single mothers in the Omaha metro. The Rose House, Inc donates necessities like diapers and baby formula.

It now has a global reach, as far as Africa.

TaRae Peoples started The Rose House in 2012. But her vision started long before that.

‘I myself was a single mother,’ she said.

Working out of a small space in Westroads Mall, Peoples hopes to help women whose shoes she was once in.

‘I just really desired that there be a place where we could go, get all the support that we need. And really help me move forward in my single motherhood journey,’ she said.

This year, diaper donations came from local donors and churches, and even companies like Verizon.

Peoples also made a connection overseas, thanks to an Omaha woman with ties to Tanzania.

‘She wanted to know more about what we were doing. She was going to donate her event space to us for an event she was planning,’ Peoples said.

Sajida Johnson talked to her family in Tanzania about The Rose House’s mission.
