Ellen applauds H-E-B’s $1 million donation to Texas food banks in storm aftermath

Good News Notes:

H-E-B is supporting the Texas food banks residents are leaning on in the wake of recent winter weather.

The Texas grocery chain announced a $1 million donation on Wednesday to support 18 food banks in Texas as the state recovers from a week-long winter and utility crisis which left residents cold, hungry and in the dark. The effort was highlighted by Ellen DeGeneres on her talk show Wednesday afternoon.

In addition to the monetary donations, H-E-B also donated $100,000 worth of Meal Simple meals to food banks.

H-E-B responded to the need for water, whether due to lack of pressure or busted pipes, by gathering donations from supplier partners. Zen Water and Florida-based Publix donated 10 truckloads of water each. Proud Source Water also committed a truck of water. The end result was 21 trailer loads of more than 725,000 bottles of water, according to the announcement.

The grocery store is also providing a way for customers to get in on the giving. Shoppers will be able to donate in the checkout lane or online. Funds generated will go directly to food banks affiliated with Feeding Texas.

DeGeneres noted H-E-B’s commitment Texas, saying she sends her love to the state.

‘Thank you, H-E-B,’ she said. ‘Our hearts go out to all of you affected by the storm.'”
