Greenville: ‘God bless you all,’ Aussie thanks mystery giver for pay-it-forward meal

Good News Notes:

That fact became evident this week when a randomly placed sticky note at a restaurant on the other side of the world filled the belly of a man with disabilities and touched the heart of the city of Greenville.

It all started in Melbourne, Australia, at a restaurant called The Soup Place. The restaurant has an ongoing “pay it forward” program to help provide meals for those who are homeless and in need of support.

The way it works is simple: Customers pay for a meal, then leave a sticky note on a board for someone in need to redeem. On the note, customers leave messages for the recipient.

Enter Adam Salamito.

He selected a note left by someone from Greenville, South Carolina. He was so grateful for the meal and amazed by the distance, he emailed the city of Greenville on Tuesday with his thanks.

“To have someone from the other side of the world to do such a simple, charitable act, touched me deeply,” Salamito wrote.

“I will now and forever have a place in my heart for the citizens of Greenville,” he said. “I wish health and happiness to you and may God bless you all.”

When Tami Mappus got the email at the city’s customer service center called “Greenville Cares,” she alerted Beth Brotherton, Greenville’s director of communications and neighborhood relations.

“It’s been really uplifting for all of us,” said Brotherton, who posted about the touching letter on the city’s Facebook page.

“(She) has corresponded with him back and forth a couple of times,” Brotherton said. “His initial email had a photo of the sticky note attached. But we really wanted a picture of Adam to personalize it. We sent him back a picture of the Communications staff posing in front of City Hall,” she said.”
